Premiere Pro benefits from both CPU and GPU power. Raw CPU power, calculated by multiplying a CPU’s cores by its frequency, will always pay off for the most demanding workloads. And while you can never have too much RAM we recommend 3-6GB of RAM per CPU core. Many effects/filters/actions and real-time playback may require a powerful GPU and scrubbing and previewing can benefit from multiple GPUs. At the heart of Adobe Premiere Pro CC is the GPU-accelerated Mercury Playback engine. It leverages NVIDIA CUDA to deliver interactive, real-time editing and up to 23x faster performance than even dual CPUs can deliver, particularly in 4K RED camera files. The more effects and the higher the resolution, the more powerful GPU configurations you should consider for your Premier Pro workstation. Additionally, if you’re working with larger frame sizes with lighter compression or data-rich formats like Camera Raw, you’ll need bigger and faster drive arrays in RAID.

While they often go hand in hand, these two applications utilize your system in different ways. After Effects benefit from CPU. Raw CPU power, calculated by multiplying a CPU’s cores by its frequency, will always pay off for the most demanding workloads. But single core performance is highly beneficial in AE also so a balance between Clock and Cores is fundamental. For After Effects’ new rendering engine, we recommend 4-8GB of RAM per CPU core in a workstation for After Effects.
As for GPU, Instead of CUDA, After Effects uses OpenGL on the following
Ray-traced 3D renderer, Rendering on the GPU, Fast Draft previews mode
Faster blitting to the screen, Hardware Accelerate Composition, Layer, and Footage Panels” preference. So having 1 really good GPU is what we recommend.
